I really = hope you=20 spend hours learning how to invite, because this is where you get = good at=20 network marketing.

I=E2=80=99ve said it for 10 years: you = can be terrible=20 at everything else and still earn good money in network marketing = if=20 you=E2=80=99re good at inviting. If you can invite = well, you can=20 always put prospects in front of good presenters and good = trainers.=20

The word invite in the context that = I=E2=80=99m using it is=20 the act of asking someone to do something. Go to a movie, meet for = breakfast, watch a video, etc.

In network marketing = you=E2=80=99re=20 inviting people to look at either the business or the product or = both.=20

1.     =20 Business:=20 This is where you = show and=20 educate your prospects about network marketing. Have them really=20 understand and believe in its ability to provide adequate income = and time=20 freedom. Then show your product or service. This style is = sometimes called=20 =E2=80=9Ctop down=E2=80=9D or =E2=80=9Cbusiness = first.=E2=80=9D

2.     =20 Product: Show your prospects only the product = (skin=20 care, nutrition, telephone services, Internet services). After = your=20 prospect falls in love with the product they=E2=80=99ll know the = business is=20 viable. This style is called =E2=80=9Cbottom up=E2=80=9D or = =E2=80=9Cproduct first.=E2=80=9D=20

The lack of understanding of these = two methods=20 causes much frustration to those of us who are in network = marketing and=20 those who are not.

Why are People = Confused?
Perhaps the=20 best way for me to explain why the confusion takes place is with = an=20 example of a stockbroker. What does the stockbroker sell? You may = reply,=20 stocks. Well, not really. What the stockbroker actually=20 sells is that you can make money with a stock. So = the=20 money you=E2=80=99ll make is the product. You = may have heard=20 this referred to as =E2=80=9Cmarketing intangibles.=E2=80=9D This = is very much like=20 network marketing because often the presenter prefers to = =E2=80=9Cmarket the=20 intangible,=E2=80=9D i.e., that you can make money. This = isn=E2=80=99t necessarily=20 a bad method, unless you=E2=80=99re talking to someone who = doesn=E2=80=99t understand this=20 conversation.

Suppose we=E2=80=99re talking to a = person who comes=20 from a retail sales background. Let=E2=80=99s say she owns a wax = candle shop. If=20 she hears a presenter talking about all the money she can make in = network=20 marketing, she=E2=80=99ll constantly be struggling to understand = where the=20 money is coming from. Many times these people are walking around = after the=20 typical presentation saying, "I don=E2=80=99t get it". The = reason she=20 doesn=E2=80=99t get it is because she=E2=80=99s used to holding in = her hands the tangible=20 product that makes her the money.

This also works in = reverse. If=20 you approach a stockbroker and rub hand lotion on his hands and = say,=20 "you can make a lot of money doing this", he won=E2=80=99t = get=20 it either. He=E2=80=99ll see it as a little = =E2=80=9Cpretty party thing.=E2=80=9D=20 Certainly not something that could create a lot of money.=20

What=E2=80=99s My Point?
How you invite, whether = business first=20 or product first will have much to do with = =E2=80=9Cknowing=E2=80=9D your prospect. This=20 is the reason networking with people you know is so effective. = This is=20 also why you should master both business and product invitations.=20

In your network marketing company, take the approach that = you=E2=80=99re=20 starting your own company. You need a board of = directors.  In=20 network marketing we call them leaders.

The = most=20 important thing for you to understand at this point is you = don=E2=80=99t=20 necessarily have to know these people. You probably=20 won=E2=80=99t.  You may personally find these = leaders or=20 someone in your organization could lead you to them.=20

3D"TextWhat=20 character traits do you want in your leaders? What character = traits do=20 your leaders want in you? Why is this important for inviting?=20

 

 

 

 

Eagle Eye
Your greatest asset will become = your=20 eagle eye at picking leaders. I=E2=80=99ve not found a = better way to teach=20 how to spot a leader than just plain experience. However, you can = look for=20 certain traits.


How well you do at inviting will = greatly=20 depend on the growth of your communication skills. Most people = have=20 difficulty with communication. I did! However, the more I = study it,=20 the more I realize that communication is what makes or = breaks us in=20 life.

It=E2=80=99s your ability to woo your = significant=20 other. It=E2=80=99s your ability to get a job, get a raise, get a = promotion, get=20 along with others in the office. The signs on the road are the = City=20 communicating with us, giving us driving instructions. Whether = written or=20 verbal, communication is life. Don=E2=80=99t most conflicts = stem from=20 mis-communications? Ever hear =E2=80=9CYou don=E2=80=99t = understand me?=E2=80=9D It=E2=80=99s definitely a=20 skill worthy of much research and study.

Don't Like=20 "Sales?=E2=80=9D
Often, when people don=E2=80=99t think = they=E2=80=99re good at=20 communication they=E2=80=99ll use the phrase, =E2=80=9CI = don=E2=80=99t like sales=E2=80=9D or =E2=80=9CI=E2=80=99m not a=20 sales person.=E2=80=9D Sales has nothing to do with it. In = fact when you=20 picture a sales person, what you=E2=80=99re picturing is a poor = communicator. When=20 you=E2=80=99ve been sold, you knew it. You felt it. When = you=E2=80=99re in the=20 presence of a really good communicator you may have bought = something, but=20 you were never sold anything.

A good communicator will = never=20 sell what his prospect won=E2=80=99t buy. There=E2=80=99s = no way they could get=20 there. A good communicator, whether a nurse or a = networker=20 listens and helps people get what they want. =

That=E2=80=99s all. A=20 nurse has to learn the appropriate questions to ask so he/she can = find=20 exactly what the needs of the patient are. They must also learn = the=20 appropriate responses to the standard questions and concerns the = patient=20 has. A networker also must learn the needed questions and the = appropriate=20 responses to common objections so they can help their prospect get = what=20 they want.

Qualify or Not
Both of the Invitations below are = the=20 truth. Which one do you think will work?

Invitation = 1
An invite call = asking a=20 girl on a date:
Boy: =E2=80=9CI saw you on campus the other day = and I=E2=80=99m=20 interested in finding out more about who you are. I grew up in = Boston, my=20 parents are from New England. My dad=E2=80=99s in the banking = business. I=E2=80=99m=20 studying finance as well. What are your interests? Are you = available=20 should I want to marry you? How many kids do you want? I want 3 = kids.=20 What=E2=80=99s your religion? Shall we sit down and discuss the = possibilities?=20

Invitation 2
Boy: =E2=80=9CI=E2=80=99ve seen you = on campus and you seem=20 to be a fun person. I=E2=80=99d like to take you to lunch and get = to know you=20 better. How does that sound to you?=E2=80=9D

Both = have the same=20 purpose in mind for meeting.

The = argument in this=20 industry is which one is better? People who are pro invitation #1 = will=20 tell you that they=E2=80=99re pre-qualifying their = prospects. So they=E2=80=99re=20 not wasting their time on people who don=E2=80=99t qualify. The = outcome was that=20 this guy had to make 72 calls to get a girl to say =E2=80=9Csure, = why not.=E2=80=9D=20
The outcome was 72 calls =3D 1 date. =

People who=20 are pro invitation #2 will say that you sit down for lunch and you = put=20 your agenda aside and you just talk and be friendly. You listen to = them.=20 Find out what their needs and desires are. Help them get it. =

The=20 outcome was, she isn=E2=80=99t interested in going out with you = but she thinks=20 you=E2=80=99re a great guy and has 3 roommates and 2 sisters who = she wants to set=20 you up with.
The outcome was 1 meeting =3D 5 = dates.=20

I=E2=80=99m suggesting to you that invitation #1 is = =E2=80=9Csales=E2=80=9D and that=20 invitation #2 is =E2=80=9Cnetworking.=E2=80=9D

I=E2=80=99ve = heard distributors invite=20 people to look at network marketing much like invitation #1. = I=E2=80=99m not=20 kidding. To show you, pick up a tape recorder and record yourself. = Even=20 though you know you=E2=80=99re recording what you say, your = conversations will=20 still resemble invitation #1. Example: =E2=80=9CMy company does = this, I=E2=80=99m making x=20 amount of money, my company has this, and I have this, etc...=20

Please understand that if you=E2=80=99re working in the = "cold market" you=20 need to do a little qualifying. When I=E2=80=99m working with an = inbound call, I=20 find it to be the only way to cut through the riff raff.=20

Purpose Behind Ever Running Advertisements
My = whole=20 purpose in running an ad is to find someone in transition. = Some=20 people are in transition because they=E2=80=99re lazy. Some people = are in=20 transition because they=E2=80=99ve been caught by circumstance = (i.e. their=20 corporation was sold, department eliminated, etc.). = They=E2=80=99re the ones I=E2=80=99m=20 after! Once I find them I try to get to know them very well. = Devote myself=20 to him or her and truly help them build an organization utilizing = people=20 they know.

I was recently in a boardroom of a non-network=20 marketing company where this corporation was trying to evaluate = the value=20 of one of the partners. The absolute number one most important = thing that=20 gentleman brought to the table was his =E2=80=9Ccontacts.=E2=80=9D = This placed his=20 valuation at approximately $10 million dollars.

Networking = is a=20 very profitable industry to know. I commend your willingness to = study it.=20 Be a student of this inviting subject forever, but don=E2=80=99t = wait more than a=20 week before doing it, even if it=E2=80=99s just tiny steps. =
